Talk about leaving a blog ...

Back in Oct. 2009 I was determined to commit to a blog. And guess what .... it lasted for a month. Almost a year later and I am back. I actually unplugged myself from the whole "obsession" of social. I opened my Tweetdeck for the first time today since May. I have been managing clients social presences the "old fashion" way, through the sites themselves. MAN,I missed Tweetdeck.

It was interesting to see who stuck around as a follower on my twitter account and who started following me without me posting anything since May. Proud to say, the ones that are actually informational, interesting and players within the social arena were still following. Okay, I know that they have WAY to many people on their own "follow" list to notice me.

Here is a quick recap of all the fun, interesting and ouch (AT&T) moments I saw today through twitter:

@GuyKawasaki - 5 Fun Facts about the Chicken Dance(where does he find this stuff)

@Jmart730 - “Thank You” Email Causes Angry Mob To Descend On AT&T Facebook Page

SearchCap: The Day In Search, September 8, 2010

Who Would You Draft For Your Fantasy Social Media Team? I love this one! Some have football ... we have social. It has got me thinking. But, with the rules he has put in place, I couldn't pick myself for my own team. :-(

Day One at the eMA Conference

The morning started off with Jeff Mirmana, VP of Marketing for the NBA. He was a great speaker, not because I am a fan of the NBA (go Heat), he had a lot to share. Here are some quick items that were covered:

- NBA has 1.6m Facebook Fans. WOW
- Working with Facebook on how to monetize their fan page
- NBA TV (online) launched Oct. 27, 2009. They did not use paid media to promote it and still had 20,000 people register online to watch NBA tip off. The NBA saw a spike when the Lakers received their rings.
- The NBA plans to emphasize their Twitter and Facebook accounts to encourage user/fan participation.

Jeff Hilimire, CDO of Engauge, was another great speaker. His topic was "Twitter:Beyond 140 character". He made a statement that was a good summarization of Twitter, "Today is all about snacking (digital snaking) and Twitter is the Snack King" He also brought up a question for debate "Is twitter really a social network?". His opinion is Twitter is more of a communication tool like email vs. a social network like Facebook. More on this later.

Take note! Social can .....

I finally arrived to my hotel for the eMA Conference in Atlanta ... after many delays ... air plane ... baggage ... anyway.

I am in the lobby bar having dinner and reading the new addition of LAPTOP magazine, when I over hear a person in their early 50's talking about how "hot" a person that is at least 33 years younger (not legal). PLUS, carry on about their personal life with anyone that would listen. As I finally look over, I see someone I recognized ... not someone I know, someone I have seen. No secret here, they have their picture on every social network possible. Something they were using to promote themselves and their company.

There is a personal responsibility when posting your picture on the net, you never know. It could be the person that was considering giving you business or the person that will make the decision if you were hired or not.

Word to the wise, when managing your personal reputation online, remember to carry it through in person. There is no "employee" or "customer representative" you will be able to blame.

This week as been all a buzz about ....

Google and Bing announced that they are going to start pulling Twitter and/or Facebook into their search results, so if you do not have your accounts marked as private be ready to have your postings pull up in search results. Read all about it on CMO.com.

Google also announced that it will start pulling audio files into their search results. So, if you don't have video, but have mp3 files on your site, they too will be indexed in Google. Read an article on Wired.com to learn more.

Microsoft luanched Windows 7. I am a XP fan and can not stand Vista. For my work laptop I paid for what Microsoft considers a "downgrade" not to have Vista. My new Dell laptop for home ... I was unable to "downgrade", so we are stuck with Vista. I read a post on Twitter about getting a free "upgrade" to Windows 7, to see if you qualify visit Microsoft's website.

Twitter, Twitter_Tips is a great twitter account to follow. They work hard at keeping up with everything twitter. Here is a great article they shared about 5 Ways You Can Stay Safe on Twitter. Hopes it helps you out.

Few tools to checkout:

Ping.fm - It claims to let users update ALL their social accounts. Will keep you posted on how it works.

Upgraded my TweetDeck and I love it. Thanks for adding the "following" function. Just a warning, if you don't currently use it, it can become addictive.

On perfessional note:

I am getting ready to head off to ATL for the eMarketing Association Conference. If you want to know what is going on, keep up with my blog and/or twitter account. I will be dishing out all the details. A special thanks to Paradise for supporting me!

Soutwind Hospitality luanched their new website and twitter page this week. Congrats to them!

On personal note:

Holding my breath for the Dolphins game .... PLEASE let us win again or at least not be humilated like the Titains were last week playing the Patriots.

NBA has started ... NICE! Hope the Heat can pull something out this year. I know what you are thinking, but I am a "glass half full" type a thinker, well when comes to the Heat.

And were off ...

Starting a blog has been something I have been wanting to do, but never seem to have the time to start. Today is the day! I hope that it will be chalk full of useful information that can be used by others.
